16 militants, 4 soldiers killed as anti-Taliban offensive continues

Islamabad, May 20, IRNA -- The anti-Taliban operation continued in Pakistan northwest on Tuesday and the security forces have killed 16 militants in 24 hours, the army said.

An army officer and three soldiers were also killed and 16 others injured in the operation in Swat valley, an army statement said.

It said that the operation is making head way as planned and in Peochar, a valley and Taliban stronghold and training center, the forces are consolidating their positions.

“Security Forces are conducting search and destroy operations,” the statement said and added that during clashes one soldier got injured while two miscreant-terrorists were killed.

In Matta, another stronghold of Taliban, the security forces have surrounded and are conducting cordon and search operations inside the Town.

Exchange of fire took place between security forces and miscreants-terrorists, resultantly one officer Maj Abid and one soldier were killed while 7 soldiers got injured in Matta.

The troops have successfully cleared more than 40 houses in the town of Kanju and area ahead of Takhtaband bridge and fierce clashes are taking place at both places.

“14 miscreants were killed during exchange of fire with security forces at Takhtaband,” while 2 soldiers were also killed and 8 were injured.
