Pakistani Taliban confirm killing of key commander

Islamabad, May 20, IRNA -- Pakistani Taliban Tuesday confirmed killing of their important commander in Khyber Agency Maulana Hijratullah alias Mustafa Kamran.
Police had earlier said that Hijratullah was killed in a police encounter. But Taliban had not confirmed his death.
Taliban spokesman Ikramullah Muhmand said that Hijratullah was tortured to death by the police after his arrest several months ago.
He said that Hijratullah was arrested with another commander Maulvi Arabistan and three other colleagues and they were buried in a graveyard near Peshawar.
Hijratullah known as Mustaf Kamran was a key commander of Pakistani Taliban movement headed by Baitulalh Mehsood.
The spokesman said that Taliban have killed two security men to take revenge of Hijratullah’s killing. He said that Taliban still hold four other security men who will be killed if their colleagues were not freed. He did not say how many Taliban fighters are in custody of the authorities.
Police said that Hijratullah was killed along with several other colleagues in Peshawar. Hijratullah was stated to be an Afghan citizen and had been head of Taliban of district Khewa in Ningrahar province during Taliban rule. He was accused of attacking NATO supplies trucks.
