Pakistan Army accuse Taliban of violating peace accord

Islamabad, May 5,IRNA-- Pakistan army Tuesday accused Taliban militants of violating a peace accord by attacking check posts and conducting armed marches in the insurgency-hit Swat valley.

Police and locals said that at least 7 people, including a soldier, were killed in different parts of Swat. They said 15 other people were injured.

Taliban blew up a police station in Mingora, the police said. The authorities imposed curfew for indefinite period in district Swat.

District Coordination Officer Khusha Khan has withdrawn his earlier warning to the people to quit Mingora in view of a major offensive against the Taliban. He had earlier asked the people to leave parts of Mingora after the Taliban took control of the city.

He said that he had issued instructions fearing that Taliban may use heavy weapons. He said there is no such threat now.

Muhammad Ali, director of Orphanage, in Swat appealed to the government to shift around 250 orphans as their lives are under threat. The orphanage called "Khapal Kur" (Own House) is located near a center of security forces. All orphan children are confided to their four-room building, Ali said.

Locals said that exchange of firing started last night and continued till this morning. Mortars shells landed on houses, killing seven civilians, they said.

Officials now say that Taliban have withdrawn from Mingora city to Qanbar area, just 3 kilometers from Mingora.

Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said in Peshawar that five hundred thousand people can leave Swat in view of the situation. He said camps have been set up for the new displaced people.
