Britain announces 10 m pound to enhance Pakistan

Islamabad, April 28, IRNA - British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on Monday announced a package of ten million pound to enhance the counter-terrorism capacity of Pakistani agencies.

“We also underlined the need of providing basic facilities to the health and education as, sometimes, the absence of these cause people to fall into the hands of militants,” the British Prime Minister said at a joint press conference with Pakistani counterpart.

Pakistan and Britain have agreed on new and stronger relationship and work together to tackle violent extremism to bring peace to the region and as well as the world at large.

He said the two countries will support each other more strongly on counter-terrorism activities.

“We will engage in strategic dialogue on all the issues surrounding this issue,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan's Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said, “We are at a new defining stage joining hands in promoting regional peace and stability and overcome the challenges posed by extremism and terrorism”.
