Senior officer, guards among five killed in firing in Pakistan

Islamabad, March 30, IRNA - Unidentified gunmen shot dead a senior police officer, former district mayor and their two guards in Pakistan’s northwest on Sunday night, police said.
Senior Superintendent Police Khurshid Khan, former mayor Alam Zeb Khan of district Dir in North West Frontier Province came under attack in Lower Dir when they went to the area to get freed a bank official kidnapped, police said.
Another man was also killed in the firing, police said.
The assailants fled after the firing, taking two other policemen with them.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. But Pakistani Taliban has launched attacks on forces in the same area.
The militants had abducted two Chinese engineers from the same area last year.
