Pakistan says 9 members of suicide bombers' network arrested

Islamabad, Jan 30, IRNA -- Police in Pakistan say they have arrested 9 members of a network of the suicide bombers, who have confessed to have masterminded series of bombings in the capital Islamabad and the nearby garrison city of Rawalpindi.

The arrests were made during a raid on a house in Rawalpindi on Wednesday, a statement from the police said.

The statement said that suicide bombers were coming from Wana, the center of South Waziristan, for attacks in parts of the country.

It said that the arrested men have confessed that they had masterminded the last year attacks on Denmark embassy Islamabad, Italian restaurant in Islamabad, police party in Islamabad, army medical corps bus in Rawalpindi and surgeon of Pakistan Mushtaq Ahmed Beg in Rawalpindi.

The police statement said that the suspects planned a suicide attack on the upcoming Republic Day, to be celebrated on March 23rd. The statement said that the suspects were also planning more attacks.

The police also recovered 100-kg explosives, materials to make suicide jackets and lethal arms.

Those arrested are identified are: Muhammad Ilyas, Muhammad Rizwan, Dr. Abdul Raziq, Fisal Ahmed Khan, Zeeshan Jalil, Muhammad Sarfaraz, Muhammad Naeem, Muhammad Nadeem and Osama bin Waheed.
