Pakistan Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani Monday underlined the need to de-escalate and to avoid tension with neighboring India as tension over Mumbai attacks is worrisome for friendly countries.
General Kayani used his meeting with the visiting special Chinese envoy to make public comment about the tension with India.
"COAS (Chief of Army Staff) highlighted the need to de-escalate and avoid conflict in the interest of peace and security," an army statement said.
"His Excellency HE Yafei, vice foreign minister of China called on chief of army staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani today at General Headquarters and discussed matters of mutual interest," it said.
The Chinese envoy also called on Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Tariq Majid at Joint Staff Headquarters and discussed regional security situation and matters of bilateral interest.
Reiterating Pakistan's commitment for maintaining regional peace and stability in a cooperative framework with all its neighbors, CJCSC emphasized the need for avoidance of provocative belligerent posturing, initiation of reciprocal measures for immediate de-escalation and earliest resumption of the peace dialogue, the statement said.
