Pakistan-Suicide Attack

Suicide attacks and bomb blasts in Pakistan have become a permanent feature and a nuisance for the government.

The suicide attacks in Pakistan have been increasing rapidly and the security forces have, so far, failed to halt momentum of suicide bombings.

Such attacks not only caused casualties and fear among the masses but also badly hit the country's economy.

The number of suicide attacks and casualties in Pakistan has steadily risen over the past several months.

At least 50 Alizai tribesmen of the Orakzai Agency were killed and 100 others injured yesterday when a suicide attacker blew up his explosive-laden vehicle at a jirga being held at a ground at Khadezai area in the upper Kurram Agency.

More than 5,000 Taliban are reportedly taking shelter in the Orakzai Agency. To counter them, the tribes had formed a joint lashkar of more than 60,000 tribesmen, the sources said.

The government of Pakistan has been following the strategy, which is not acceptable to most of its public on war against terror. Former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf supported the US policy of war on terror but failed to convince his public against the war.

Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has also expressed his doubts about fruitful outcome of the joint sitting of parliament discussing the issue of terrorism.

Although the opposition leaders are criticizing the government for not presenting any plan to combat militancy, so far opposition leaders have failed too in coming up with a real solution that how terrorism could be eradicated and how the life and property of people could be protected from suicide attacks.

The Interior Ministry has acknowledged that it is next to impossible to overcome suicide attacks. In this perspective it is inevitable that a solution to all problems including terrorism be found in the joint session of the Parliament, Chaudhry Nisar said.

People in Pakistan say that US only wanted to destroy the nuclear weapons of Pakistan that is why it has created a conflict in the region. Some Pakistanis say that US wanted to take the control of the oil and gas reserves of Central Asian states.

It was imperative that a joint session of parliament be apprised of all agreements executed with the US claiming that NATO and the US did not want the government and tribal elders should pursue the path of dialogue.

The number of attacks in that 15-month period is more than twice as many as in the previous five years, according to a database compiled by the South Asia Terrorism Portal, an India-based terrorism research website.
