Pakistani Taliban Tuesday denied any hand in a deadly suicide attack on a lawmaker in eastern Punjab province and strongly condemned the blast.
The attack on Bhakkar city killed at least 26 people and injured over 100, police said.
Member National Assembly Rashid Akber Niwani was also injured when a bomber snaked into his political office where a large number of people were there to seek jobs and his help in solution to their problem.
Mufti Rehman, a spokesman for the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan said that Taliban were not behind the attack and also expressed sympathy with the bereaved families.
He said that those who are linking such attacks are Taliban movement, are in fact defaming them.
Mufti Rehma said that Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsood has also strongly condemned the attack.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the fresh attack but the government links such blasts with the tribal regions.
The Taliban spokesman said that the group does not know who have carried out the attack but the government can say something about the incident.
Several Pakistani dailies have suspected sectarian element in the Bhakkar attack and one paper reported that the attack may have done by the banned group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.
