Pakistan-PM-US Strikes
Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said Thursday that the US government has been clearly told that there would be no compromise on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan.
The statement came a day after US drone fired another missile in Pakistan's tribal region killing at least seven persons despite repeated protests.
"Pakistan would not allow any foreign force to hit targets in Pakistan because such strikes prove counter productive," Gilani said while talking to ministers from the north west frontier province.
The Prime Minister emphasised upon the need for greater intelligence sharing and better coordination between the security forces of Pakistan, the US, NATO and ISAF, a statement from the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister also apprised the participants of the meeting of his meeting with US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Michael Mullen.
Mullen said that the United States would respect Pakistan's sovereignty in his meetings with Mr Gilani and the army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani but the American spy plane fired missiles shortly after Mullen statement.
"The war against terrorism and extremism is in Pakistan's own national interest because peace and stability is a must for the economic development of the country," Gilani said.
The US said that Pakistan was informed about the Wednesday's missile strike but Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Pakistan was not given any information.
