Pakistan-Taliban Pakistan Taliban claim responsibility for firing at PM motorcade

Pakistani Taliban Wednesday claimed responsibility for firing at the motorcade of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, who was not in the when shots were fired.

Two bullets from unidentified gunman hit the Prime Minister's bullet-proof Mercedes car when it was heading to Islamabad airport to collect him, police said.

Earlier Prime Minister's Spokesman Zahid Bashir said that Mr.

Gilani has survived an assassination attempt.

Local TV channels reported that Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan claimed responsibility for the attack on the Prime Minister's motorcade.

Khan was quoted as saying that suck attacks will be carried out on government leaders also in the future.

A statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office said, "Of the multiple sniper shots fired on the Prime Minister's vehicle, two hit the window on the driver's side.

"However, because of the robust and comprehensive security measures, the Prime Minister and all the members of his motorcade remained unharmed."

Television pictures showed the shattered glass of the driver's door.
