Islamabad, Sept 4, IRNA
Pakistan-Senate
Pakistani Senate Thursday adopted a unanimous resolution, strongly condemning the attack of Afghanistan-based Coalition troops on a Pakistani border region, which resulted into the killing of some 20 people.

Governor of northwest frontier province Owais Ahmed Ghani says that three Afghanistan based coalition gunship helicopters and commandos launched attacks on a village in South Waziristan and killed at least 20 innocent citizens of Pakistan including women and children.

"The Chinook helicopter borne ground attack supported by additional air assets based in Afghanistan is a gross violation of Pakistan's sovereignty and territorial integrity," the Senate resolution said.

"It also undermines the basic norms of international law and contradicts the very basis of cooperation between Pakistani security forces and ISAF/coalition forces in Afghanistan," it said.

The resolution said that any incursion inside Pakistani territory and resulting loss of innocent lives is unacceptable. "This matter may be taken up strongly with member countries of the ISAF".

This House called upon the government of Pakistan to take all necessary measures to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country and repel such attacks in the future with full force.

This House expressed its full solidarity and complete sympathy with the people of tribal regions who are equal citizens and continue to bear the brunt of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

The Senate demanded that the government immediately arrange compensation for the victims and their families affected by this wanton and most gruesome act.

"The Senate also recommends that the government should convey in clear terms to the ISAF forces that such violation of our sovereignty is bound to force fundamental changes of foreign policy".

"We resolve to discuss the situation arising from the condemnable attack on Pakistan's territory by militants/terrorists and foreign forces and for this purpose convene a special session," the senators said.

The Senate also reiterated the resolve of the people of Pakistan to combat all forms and manifestation of terrorism that constitutes threats to the people and vital interest of Pakistan.

Raza Rabbani, Leader of the majority party in the Senate said such cowardly acts against innocent civilians not only constitute a violation of the international humanitarian norms and the principles of the United Nations Charter but also fuel the fire of violence and hatred.
