Pakistan-Taliban Attack

Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the bomb attack on a truck of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) which killed seven air force personnel and five other people in the northwestern city of Peshawar on Tuesday.

The PAF truck, used for purpose of carrying ration and utilities, was returning to Peshawar from a nearby base when came under attack at 11 a.m., a statement said.

"The tragic incident took place at around 11 a.m. when the truck was plying from PAF Badaber Camp to Peshawar for ration and utilities," the PAF statement said.

"There were about 8-10 PAF personnel including Airmen and Civilians who were traveling on the truck when the incident took place," it said.

"The injured personnel have been shifted to nearby hospitals. The cause of this accident is being investigated," the statement said.

Police said that 10 people were also injured in the attack, doctors at Peshawar's Lady Reading said.

They said 13 bodies were brought to the hospital.

Spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban movement Maulvi Umar said Taliban carried out the attack in reaction to military operations in the tribal region of Bajaur and Swat valley.

"Taliban Movement had warned that we would react across the country if the operation was not launched," Umar said.

Violence has increased in the northwest after the operation has been intensified in Bajaur and Swat over the last one week.

Pakistan army says that over 100 militants have been killed in operation in Bajaur, the claim denied by Taliban.
