Islamabad, Aug 3, IRNA

Pakistani security forces on Sunday killed at least ten militants in the violence-hit Swat valley, the state television reported.

Clashes continued between the forces and militants in parts of Swat valley on the seventh day and local Taliban said they burnt seven more girls schools.

Army said that a soldier was also killed in the attack.

PTV reported that 10 militants were killed in Peech Banr area of Swat. There was no reaction from the Taliban group.

The security forces launched a major operation against Taliban in Swat Valley on Monday a day after the militants killed three intelligent agents and kidnapped over 20 security personnel from a check post.

The forces are also using gunship helicopters and artillery to bomb positions of suspected militants.

Scores of people have fled to safe places since the security forces launched operation and the authorities have imposed curfew in various parts of the valley.

The government has claimed that over 50 Taliban fighters have been killed so far in the clashes.

Taliban torched seven girls schools late last night in their campaign against women education, taking the number to around 70 of schools burnt or blown up in less than two months.

Army spokesman in Swat Major Murad said that the forces are taking action against the militants to restore writ of the government.

Fighting in Swat has posed threat to a peace deal signed by Taliban and the government in the northwest in May.

Taliban had agreed to stop attacks on the security forces and the government had agreed to withdraw army and to release Taliban prisoners.

But Taliban say that the government has violated the agreement by launching operation and not releasing their prisoners.
