Founder of Pakistan's nuclear program Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, who is suffering from cancer, was on Sunday discharged from a hospital where he was admitted few days ago due to low blood pressure and fever, a cabinet minister said.
Khan has been under detention at his Islamabad residence since 2004 after the government claimed that he had provided nuclear technology to other countries when he was the head of the country's nuclear program.
Pakistan announced in 2006 that prostrate cancer was diagnosed in a routine medical examination of the architect of Pakistan's nuclear program.
Dr. Khan family says he has never been provided opportunity to clarify his position and it is widely believed that he was forced to appear on state-run PTV to make statement about his role.
Some opposition parties have been demanding his release but President Pervez Musharraf is reluctant to free him.
Dr. Khan was taken to hospital on Wednesday in Islamabad for medication treatment, the army had said in a statement.
Dr. Khan has been keeping good health since his surgery in September 2006 but on March 5 he complained of weakness and was provided immediate medical treatment at home, the statement said.
Information Minister Nisar Memon said that Dr. Khan was discharged from hospital and shifted to residence after he gained significant improvement in his health.
Further treatment as required would be provided to Dr. Khan at his residence, he said.
Dr. Khan was treated for enteric fever and endotoximia infection besides examining by a cardiologist and his heart was found healthy with normal functioning.
