IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad, March 5,IRNA -- Founder of Pakistan's nuclear program Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, who is suffering from cancer, was taken to hospital on Wednesday after his health was deteriorated, the army said.

Pakistan announced in 2006 that prostrate cancer was diagnosed in a routine medical examination of the architect of Pakistan's nuclear program.

Dr Khan was shifted to K.R.L hospital in Islamabad for medication treatment, the army spokesman said.

"Dr A.Q Khan has been keeping good health since his surgery in September 2006. Yesterday, he complained of weakness and was provided immediate medical treatment at home," an army statement said.

It said that medical checkup revealed low blood pressure and fever, probably due to some infection.

Doctors advised him to be hospitalized for a detailed medical checkup.

"Dr A.Q Khan has thus, been shifted to the hospital in the morning, where the panel of doctors, who treated him earlier, is taking care of him," the statement said.

It said that doctors, who are treating him, are hopeful that Dr A. Q Khan would return home fully recovered in a couple of days.

"Public would however, be kept informed about the state of health of Dr Khan, periodically," the statement said.
