Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Monday that he will not work as Prime Minister under President General Pervez Musharraf.

Addressing a crowded press conference at his residence in Lahore, Nawaz Sharif said that Gen. Pervez Musharraf is trying to make Pakistan as Iraq.

"But we will protect our country and will not let any one to destroy it," he said.

Nawaz Sharif filed nomination papers with the election officials in Lahore to contest elections on the National Assembly seat.

Kulsoom Nawaz, spouse of Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif, his brother also filed nomination papers to contest National Assembly elections from Lahore.

Nawaz Sharif said that General Musharraf has failed to uproot terrorism and extremism in the country therefore he has no right to remain in power. He said that he has not come back to Pakistan for the lust of power but the objective of his return is to revive democracy and provide the oppressed right of our people to them.

He said that his return to Pakistan was not taken place under any deal with General Pervez Musharraf. "I have succeeded to return home by the efforts of Saudi royal family."

He underlined that General Pervez Musharraf tried his best to hinder his return. "However, my return made possible due to the initiative taken by King Abdullah for which I am grateful to him."

He paid tribute to the detained and sacked judges who refused to take oath under General Musharraf's Provisional Constitutional Order and assured them of his full support.

He urged General Pervez Musharraf to materialize his promise of taking off his uniform which he had made before the Supreme Court because his uniform has paid irreparable losses to Pakistan.
