Pakistan army copter crashes, 4 troops die

At least four Pakistani security officers of were killed when an army helicopter crashed in Pakistan-administered Kashmir on Monday, the army spokesman said.

The helicopter, carrying security and other staff officers of President General Pervez Musharraf, came down near the town of Gari Dupata, in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, during crash landing, Major General Waheed Arshad said.

Presidential spokesman Major General Rashid Qureshi was among the four injured officers who were evacuated to hospital in Muzaffarabad, he said.

He said that blaze erupted at the back side of the helicopter, forcing the pilot to crash land.

He said the pilot was safe in the crash.

President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz were scheduled to visit the earthquake-hit Kashmir and North West Frontier Province on the second anniversary of October 2005 devastating earthquake.

The spokesman said the helicopter was following the helicopter of President Pervez Musharraf who reached his destination.

Correspondents in the area said that the helicopter destroyed in the crash.

They said locals helped the security men to pull bodies and injured out of the helicopter.
