Saudi intelligence chief, Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Saturday urged former Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif to honor his exile agreement brokered by the Saudi King in 2000.
Last month, Nawaz Sharif announced his return to Pakistan after the Supreme Court ruled that he can return and that no citizen could be barred from returning country.
The court had also asked the government not to create hurdles to Sharif's return but his party says that dozens of its leaders and workers have been arrested in parts of the country.
Prince Muqrin and Saad Hariri, the son of a former Lebanese prime minister, who has reportedly met exiled former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and advised him not to return to Pakistan, met President Pervez Musharraf to discuss with him the situation arising out of Mr Sharif's announcement to return.
The Pakistani government says that Saudis and Hariri's son were among world leaders who had brokered a deal between Mr Sharif and President Musharraf in 2000 when Sharif was sent into exile to Saudi Arabia.
Officials say that Mr Sharif had agreed to remain abroad for ten years and not to take part in politics for the same period.
Sharif denies he has any such agreement with the Pakistani government but says that he had an understanding with Saudi Arabia.
With regard to the agreement with His Excellency Nawaz Sharif, I want to make it clear that such agreement was made to facilitate and ensure the stability of Pakistan, Prince Muqrin told reporters after his meeting with President Musharraf.
