Pakistan-Deal
President Pervez Musharraf is set to strike a power sharing deal with exiled opposition leader Benazir Bhutto, a cabinet minister said on Wednesday.
A government team has held detailed talks with Benazir Bhutto in London and both sides have reached understanding on many issues.
Minister for Railway Sheikh Rashid Ahmed told a news conference the deal with Benazir Bhutto, the Chairperson of Pakistan Peoples Party, is in the final stages while uniform of the President is no more an issue.
He said a few points are being negotiated and would be finalized within a couple of days to make the deal a success.
He said the major point in the deal remains allowing any person to be elected as Prime Minister for third term.
"Uniform is no more an issue as President Musharraf has clearly devised policy on it," he said.
Answering another question, he said if the deal with Benazir Bhutto could not be finalized then the government has an alternate strategy.
Answering a question he said nothing could be termed final in politics. He said the present political situation and doctrine of necessity are the need of the hour.
So striking a deal with PPP is not out of place here.
Quoting an example, he said Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif had been terming each other as "security risk" during their respective terms in the office of government.
But later, he added they both sat together and struck agreement under the banner of "Charter of Democracy".
Sheikh Rashid Ahmed dispelled the impression that any government official or its representative contacted PML (N) chief Nawaz Sharif in London.
