Pakistan, India agree to hold new round of talks

Pakistan and India on Saturday agreed to launch the fourth round of composite dialogue in March, hold official level talks on Siachin and Sir Creek issues, hold joint ministerial commission meeting and complete work on liberalization of visa regime.

This was announced by the Foreign Minister Mr. Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri and Indian External Affairs Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee at a joint news conference after their talks in Islamabad Saturday night.

They said they agreed to launch the fourth round of composite dialogue on the 13th of March and a meeting of the Joint Commission will be held in February this year.

The two countries also agreed to establish a committee on prisoners comprising retired judges of Superior Judiciary to visit jails in the two countries to ensure that human treatment was given to the prisoners and release of those who have completed their terms.

They have agreed to expedite work for liberalization of visa regime by February next.

The Indian External Affairs Minister said that several agreements which are near or close to finalization will be concluded during the visit of Pakistani Foreign Minister to New Delhi in February this year.

These include agreement on reducing accidents relating to nuclear weapons, speedy return of inadvertent line crossers and prevention of accidents at sea.

On Siachin, he said they discussed the issue and decided that the officials should meet at an early date to address it.

He said they have also agreed to facilitate movement of diplomats to two religious cities of both the countries and a procedure in this connection will be worked out.

He said it was agreed that the first meeting of the Joint Anti-terrorism mechanism will take place before the end of March next.
