Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf rejected accusations that his country's intelligence service is supporting its one-time protege Taliban and other militant Islamists in Afghanistan, Focus news magazine said in a report made available ahead of Monday's publication.
"Pakistan is not a banana republic. We have an extremely loyal and disciplined army. The secret service is mainly comprised of men of the military," Musharraf was quoted as saying.
He pointed out that the secret service personnel had been changed two to three times since the 90s.
Musharraf acknowledged however that Pakistan-based Pashtuns are aiding Taliban and Islamist insurgents in Afghanistan.
