Pakistan-Korea Sanctions
Pakistan said on Monday that it would abide by the UN Security Council resolution on North Korea.

Responding to questions at the weekly news briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said that as responsible member of the international community, Pakistan will abide by the sanctions.

She however, pointed out that sanctions are not an end in themselves and Pakistan wants resumption of the six-party talks for solution of the issue.

Replying to a question she said Pakistan has relations with North korea in different fields and it would continue to have cooperation with that country in areas that are not hit by the sanctions.

New UN secretary general: She expressed the confidence that the new secretary general of the United Nations would play his role for resolution of all disputes including Jammu and Kashmir.

It is the responsibility of the UN chief to encourage processes in various parts of the world to resolve both longstanding and new disputes.

She said Mr. Ban Ki-Moon has the necessary experience and leadership skills to carry out the requirements of his job.

Afghan FM: Asked to comment on Afghan foreign minister's accusations that Islamabad is playing down Taliban threat, she said the Afghan FM was reacting to remarks of the president during his address to the Foreign Relations Committee of the European Parliament about a month back.

She said a clarification about those remarks was also issued by the Foreign Office.

The spokesperson, however, pointed out that the ethnic composition and character of Taliban is not a secret.

It is known to everybody that they are overwhelming Pashtoon and they are carrying out their operations inside Afghanistan with help of local population.

This has also been confirmed by the latest report of the UN secretary general about Afghanistan situation.

She urged Afghan Government to focus on addressing its internal problems of governance rather than leveling baseless allegations against others.

Indian Blasts: To a question Ms. Tasnim Aslam said India has not provided any evidence to Pakistan with regard to Mumbai blasts.

Reacting to remarks of the Indian prime minister that Mumbai blasts case would be a test of Pakistan's sincerity, she said, "When we talk about institutional mechanism for cooperation in terrorism, it is not one sided."

She said both the countries agreed to help each other in this regard.

She said India also has to prove its sincerity and its resolve not to support terrorism inside Pakistan.

The spokesperson also pointed out that Indian agencies tortured people arrested in Mumbai blast case to make confessional statements.

Replying to yet another question she said Pakistan-India foreign secretary level talks would be held next month but no dates have yet been finalized.
