Pakistan army says 15 local, foreign militants killed in tribal operation

At least 15 foreign and local militants were killed when helicopter gunships bombed their compound in North Waziristan tribal region early Saturday morning, the military said.
The military launched operation after information was received that the militants were using a compound for attacks on army convoys, army spokesman Maj Gen Shaukat Sultan said.
The operation was conducted at Drabluki village in Datta Khel region, some 40 kilometers from Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristasn.
According to information, some 15 local and foreign militants were killed, General Sultan said.
He told the private Geo television that the militants were planning attacks in the same compound for attacks on military convoys.
"We had been tracing out their hideouts, they were using as their base," the spokesman said.
Several security men were killed in recent attacks on their convoys, General Sultan said.
The spokesman did not give any details about the identity of the foreigners killed in the operation.
He said that no arrest has been made during the operation.
Locals said they saw four helicopters taking part in the operation.
