Pakistan on Thursday confirmed that NATO is negotiating with Pakistan a transit route for its forces in Afghanistan.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said that the NATO seeks transit facilities for transportation of equipment and other military goods to Afghanistan.

She told private TV channels that an agreement is being prepared for such arrangements.

Pakistan has already provided similar transit facilities to the International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) and an option has been under consideration to provide the same to the NATO forces.

The spokesperson made it clear that the NATO forces would not be allowed to use Pakistani soil for military operations.

She also confirmed that the NATO was considering setting up a Military Schools for Pakistan Army Officers in Europe and noted that its basic aim was to develop better coordination between the two forces.

The NATO spokesman said in Brussels on Wednesday that the organization the alliance Assistant Secretary and President Pervez Musharraf held talks about providing transit facilities to their forces during meeting last week.
