Pakistan-Clashes
Pakistani security forces clashed with miscreants in the country's restive tribal region on Tuesday, killing eight of them, correspondents in the region and a TV channel reported.
One soldier also died in the gunbattle which erupted early in the morning in North Waziristan tribal area, Geo television reported.
The clash took place when "miscreants" attacked a convoy of security forces on the main road connecting Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan, to Razmak, a major town in the region.
Two other miscreants were also injured and security forces arrested one of them.
The fresh clash took place as a ceasefire, announced by the militants earlier this month, expired on May 12.
The militants had announced a ceasefire with the army due to a religious congregation in Miranshah in the first week which expired on May 12.
In another incident, unidentified armed men gunned down two security personnel in an overnight attack in Miranshah.
Security men of the local militia were ambushed when they were performing night patrol duty at Miranshah's main bazaar.
The armed men fled after the firing.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
But authorities blame such attacks on the anti-government militants.
Local authorities have started a hunt for those behind the killing as tension gripped the area after the incident.
In a third incident, one employee of the Water and Power Development Authority was shot dead while he, along with two other colleagues, was on his way to restore electricity in a remote village near the South Waziristan tribal region.
In another incident, unidentified gunmen attacked a vehicle of the Authority in Amma Khel area near Waziristan.
