Musharraf, Abizaid discuss Pak-Afghan `tiff'

Pakistan's President General Pervez Musharraf and visiting US General John Abizaid, commander of US Central Command, on Wednesday discussed the Pak-Afghan volley of allegations and counter-allegations.

Media reports said that the meeting continued for around two hours during which President Musharraf apprised the US general of Pakistan's stance on the "old information" on the presence of terrorists in Pakistan and the "conspiracies of Afghan defence ministry and intelligence agencies" against Pakistan.

Reports said that involvement of the US was crucial at this stage after Afghan President Hamid Karzai leaked intelligence information to the media and hurled allegations against Islamabad.

During his two-day stay, Abizaid would also meet some other top military officials, according to the reports.

President Musharraf has alleged that scores of terrorists continue to freely come to Pakistan and get engaged in terror acts.

He called upon Kabul to take adequate security measures on its side of the Pak-Afghan border.

Quoting officials, Geo, a private television channel here, claimed that Pakistan thought it necessary to "snub" the Afghan government on certain matters.

Pakistan and Afghanistan share over 2400 kilometers of porous border.

Pakistan has deployed around 78,000 security forces, equipped with modern gadgets, to check cross-border movements.

President Musharraf had termed the Afghan intelligence reports "nonsense".

He also criticized the leakage to media.

Kabul had reportedly conceded on Tuesday that the data leaked to the media was based on old information.
