Pakistan said on Monday it expects an amicable and diplomatic solution to the Iran nuclear program even after the resolution last week by the International Atomic Energy Organization to report Iran to the UN Security Council.
Pakistan expects an amicable and diplomatic solution of Tehran's nuclear dispute, Foreign Office spokesperson Ms. Tasnim Aslam told the weekly briefing in Islamabad.
She said that IAEA Board will decide to refer the matter to the Security Council in its meeting next month.
She said Pakistan has time and again clarified that Iran has certain obligations as a member of Non-Proliferation Treaty and it has also rights in this regard.
Cartoons: To a question, the spokesperson said Pakistan has condemned in very strong words the publication of blasphemous creatures.
Pakistan has made it clear that it is not acceptable anywhere in the name of freedom of press as freedom of a person stops when other freedom comes along.
Bangladesh PM: She said that Bangladesh Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia will pay a three-day state visit to Islamabad from February 12 and will hold wide ranging talks with the Pakistan leadership to further strengthen bilateral talks.
Infiltration: To another question, she said Pakistan has already taken a number of steps to stop infiltration of terrorists from Afghanistan and it has deployed over seventy thousand troops along with its western borders.
She said, "We have captured over seven hundred Al-Qaeda terrorists and Pakistan has made more efforts than any other country in war on terror. She, however, said that Afghanistan should deploy matching security forces on the border to stop infiltration.
Indian withdrawal: The spokesperson said Pakistan will welcome the reported withdrawal of Indian forces from Kashmir. However, she said that Pakistan has not officially received any report in this regard.
She said President Pervez Musharraf and the prime minister have repeatedly proposed demilitarization of occupied Kashmir.
To a question regarding setting up of Visa Camps in Karachi and Mumbai, she said both Pakistan and India have agreed to open consulates in both the cities simultaneously and Pakistan is making efforts to open a consulate in Mumbai at the earliest.
She said that Pakistan has already paid twenty million rupees in advance and located a building there but the matter could not be settled. "However, we are still looking for a proper property to open the consulate."
To another question, Ms. Aslam said Pakistan has its own special relationship with Saudi Arabia which are deep rooted in history and religion and Saudi king himself has described these relations as very special during his stay in Islamabad.
She said that Pakistan has very good understanding with Saudi Arabia on all issues and its imports major parts of petroleum products from Saudi Arabia.
About Kashmir, she said Kashmir dispute needs to be addressed in very forthright manner and a solution acceptable to all stakeholders, particularly the Kashmiris.
It requires flexibility, sincerity and courage to resolve the Kashmir issue which Pakistan has already shown, the spokesperson said.
She hoped that India will respond positively and a visible progress will be made in the third round of talks. "Pakistan is disappointed on the progress of talks which are not according to our expectations but it will be wrong to say that there is no progress and hoped that peace process will move forward in the current round of talks," she added.
