At least five Pakistani troops were killed and two others injured in a landmine blast in the country's North Waziristan tribal region, military sources said.

An army vehicle was hit by a roadside land mine at Data Khel village, some 20 kilometers southwest of Miran Shah, the headquarters of North Waziristan, close to Afghan border, the sources said.

The incident took place at 2:30 p.m local time when a military vehicle was passing the area and an improvised explosive device was used in the attack.

One of the injured is in critical condition, local correspondents said.

Pakistani forces are engaged in hunt for Taliban and Al Qaeda suspects in Waziristan tribal region.

Pakistan says it has deployed some seventy thousands troops along the border with Afghanistan to check infiltration of the suspects from Afghanistan.
