The government of Pakistan ruled out the possibility of shifting ammunition depots out of populated areas.

Replying to a question, Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal informed the National Assembly that there was no plan to remove depots to other places.

He said that shifting of depots from their present locations to remote areas was a huge task and would require billions of rupees.

The minister told the Lower House of the Parliament during the question hour that it was unlikely the amount would be released to do the needful.

He pointed out that unlike other military installations, ammunition depots were spread over huge areas with an elaborate infrastructure owing to technical and safety reasons.

The minister, however, said that detained working on shifting of ammunition depot, Niaz Beg, Lahore, is under process.
