No meeting is scheduled between President General Pervez Musharraf and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly summit later this month, Foreign Office spokesman said on Saturday.

The Jerusalem Post reported on Friday that plans are underway to arrange a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, when the two leaders will be in New York.

There is no such meeting in the schedule of President Musharraf during his visit to New York, Foreign Office Spokesman Muhammad Naeem Khan said, while commenting on the report.

Reports about Musharraf-Sharon meeting emerged following the first formal foreign ministers level contact between the two countries.

Pakistan's ambassador General (retired) Jehangir Karamat has been quoted as saying that if any such meeting takes place it will be by chance and there is no harm' in it.

The Foreign Office Spokesman, however, said that President Musharraf would speak at American Jewish Congress in New York.

It is part of Pakistan's efforts to promote interfaith harmony among various religions.

The Spokesman, however, said Pakistan would send a diplomatic delegation to Palestine which will visit Gaza besides other areas under the control of Palestinian Authority.

Reiterating Pakistan's principled stand on the recognition of Israel, the Spokesman said there is absolutely no decision to recognise Israel or start trade with it, following the meeting between the foreign ministers of Pakistan and Israel as it is only to promote the cause of Palestine and to play active role in resolving the issue.
