"The successful test fire of indigenously developed cruise missile Babur is a great stride in Pakistan's defense capability and a gift to the nation on the eve of Independence Day."
Pakistan celebrates Independence Day on August 14.

Referring to the recent developments regarding acquisition of advanced weapons system in the neighborhood, he said test will further improve the existing military balance in the region.

"Pakistan maintains balance in both conventional and
unconventional fields," he added.

Pakistan has a wide range of ballistic missiles in its arsenal which are developed in competition with India through decades of tension between the nuclear-armed neighbors.
