Pakistan on Thursday said it was determined to continue the country's missile program.
"The country's missile program is indigenous and will continue, keeping in view defense and security needs," the government's central spokesman Sheikh Rashid Ahmed told IRNA.
Pakistan test-fired its maiden cruise missile from surface with a range of 500 kilometers today.
Rashid, who is also information and broadcasting minister, said the test-fire was a `gift' from Pakistani military experts to the nation, coinciding with the birthday of President General Pervez Musharraf.
The missile, Hatf-VII `Babur', was launched from ground and all design parameters for the flight were validated, the military said.
A press release by the Inter-Services Public Relations made available to this agency said that the missile had the capability to carry nuclear and conventional warheads with pinpoint accuracy.
"It is a terrain hugging missile, which has the most advanced and modern navigation and guidance and a high degree of maneuverability and its technology enables it to avoid radar detection and penetrates undetected through any hostile defence system," it said.
Pakistan has a wide range of ballistic missiles in its arsenal, which are developed in competition with India through decades of tension between the nuclear-armed neighbors.
However, both are currently engaged in talks to resolve their differences through peaceful means under the peace process.
