India, Pakistan begin nuclear confidence-building talks

The issue of prior notification of missile tests is expected to be atop agenda of talks between Indian and Pakistan on nuclear issue and of confidence building measures here Friday.

The talks will continue till tomorrow, reported the leading Indian newspaper `The Statesman'.

The current talks between the two countries will be the third round of dialogue between the experts on the subject of nuclear CBMs since the Composite Dialogue was resumed in 2004.

Meera Shankar, the additional secretary of Indian Ministry of External Affairs and his Pakistani counterpart Tariq Osman Hyder are leading the Indian and Pakistani delegations, respectively at the n-cbm talks.

The last two meetings were held in Delhi in June 2004 and Islamabad in December 2004.

The second round of India-Pakistan expert level dialogue on conventional CBMs, to be held on August 8, will be jointly presided over by secretary of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs Dilip Sinha and his Pakistani counterpart Tariq Osman Hyder.

Navtej Sarna, the spokesperson of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that the two sides have been exchanging drafts on prior notification of missile tests, which will be discussed during the forthcoming discussions.
