Pakistan, India to hold talks on nuclear, conventional CBMs

A nine-member Pakistani delegation leaves for Delhi on Wednesday for two-day experts-level talks with Indian counterparts on Nuclear Confidence Building Measures (CBMs), beginning on August 5, it was officially announced here on Wednesday.
Tariq Osman Hyder, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs will lead the delegation. Other members include Syed Ibn-e-Abbas, Director General South Asia, Foreign Office.
The Indian side will be headed by Additional Secretary, External Affairs Ministry, Meera Shankar at the talks on Nuclear CBMs.
Pakistan has proposed a strategic restraint regime containing nuclear and missile restraint, conventional balance and conflict resolution. It also plans discussions on pre-notification of missile tests.
Experts-level talks on Conventional CBMs will also be held in New Delhi on August 8.
Indian side will be led by Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Dileep Sinha while Pakistani side will be headed by Tariq Osman Hyder, Additional Secretary, Foreign Office during talks on conventional CBMs.
Proposals about convention CBMs include up-gradation of hotline between foreign secretaries and Director General Military Operations of the two countries, flag meeting between commanders at designated locations at Line of Control (LoC),pre-notification of military exercises and reduced presence of Indian troops in Occupied Kashmir beside speedy return of those who inadvertently cross the LoC.
Pakistan's delegation on Economic and Commercial Cooperation, headed by Secretary Commerce Tasneem Noorani will also leave for Delhi on August 8 to attend two-day meeting within the framework of Composite Dialogue process.
The two-day talks, to be held on August 9 and 10 are, expected to take up various items of agenda including the report of the Joint Study Group and the issue of Non Tariff Barriers (NTBs) to enhance trade between the two countries.
Interior Secretary-level meeting on Terrorism and Drug Trafficking between the two countries will be held in Delhi on August 29-30 as a part of Composite Dialogue process.
