Pak military says terror network dismantled in tribal region

A top Pakistani Army general said here on Friday "Terrorists' network in tribal Waziristan belt has been dismantled and Pakistan Army would never let the terrorists to regroup and endanger the peaceful atmosphere" of the tribal agency.

"It was extremely heartening to note that the tribesmen have timely realized that foreign terrorists were using Islam as a lever to pursue their political agenda and ulterior motives at the cost of peace in the region," Corps Commander Lieutenant General Safdar Hussain told tribal elders at South Waziristan Agency, said a military statement.

"They (foreign terrorists) were here not to serve any Islamic cause but to advance their agenda for which they made the tribesmen hostage", he added.

General Safdar said that with active support of the tribesmen, Pakistan Army has dashed "designs of terrorists who were creating chasm between the peace loving people of the area and security forces."
"The target of military offensive had always been the foreign terrorists and their local facilitators, and to strengthen the hands of peaceful populace, weary of terrorism," the statement said.

The corps commander informed that as per credible intelligence reports "some 70 to 80 terrorists are still in Waziristan".

"The terrorists are on the run and they will never be allowed to regroup and reorganize. Army will accomplish its mission of cleansing terrorism from the tribal areas."
General Safdar said that after restoration of peace, a new era of development has set in Waziristan. "We have to bury the past and look forward to a brighter future. Waziristan has a very promising future", he added.
