Pakistan Air force is likely to purchase about 70 F-16 jets of the latest Block 50/52 C and D type models costing about US dollars 2.4-2.8 billion.

`Dawn' newspaper reported in its Monday issue that though officially the exact number of planes was not confirmed, it was quite likely that Pakistan might purchase about 70 planes. Each plane will cost US dollars 35-40 million.

"Part of the total cost is likely to be met from the five-year US three-billion-dollar fund allocated to Pakistan committed by Washington in 2003, half of which is to be spent on purchasing military equipment," the newspaper pointed out.
