Pakistan to induct first squadron of JF-17 jets next year

Islamabad, March 9, IRNA -- Pakistan will induct first squadron of JF-17 fighter planes, Thunder, in Pakistan Air Force in the middle of next year. The News reported in its Wednesday issue that the squadron would consist of six supersonic warplanes being jointly built by Pakistan and China. Engineers and technicians from both countries have started building five prototype fighter planes which are likely to be completed within a couple of months, the report said. Pakistan plans to induct 150 Thunders in phases, equipping them with latest avionics developed jointly by the two countries. The new jets would replace Chinese origin warplanes, A-5 and F-7, which are completing their stated life. MHA/TSH/2325/1432
