Pak troops search seminary in tribal areas
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, Dec 29, IRNA -- Pakistan`s paramilitary forces raided a seminary in the tribal areas but were unable to find anything objectionable. Local newspapers reported in their Wednesday issue that the troops searched the seminary in Miranshan in the North Waziristan tribal area. They first laid siege on the seminary and then searched it thoroughly. The raid was made in the wake of intelligence reports that said some foreigners, possibly Arabs, were hiding in the seminary, according to reports. The reports said that it was the 18th raid on suspected places, which include some seminaries and homes in North Waziristan. The locals in another locality of the tribal areas, Lawara Mandi, were scared when US helicopters violated Pakistan airspace Sunday night and flew over the areas for about half an hour, The News daily reported. Meanwhile, reports also said that an Uzbek suspected Al-Qaeda member close to the Afghan border was arrested while his five Chechen comrades managed to flee on Monday. The Uzbek was captured when the security forces intercepted a car heading towards the Pak-Afghan border, the reports added. The government has given the January 15 deadline for remaining militants to surrender before the authorities. MHA/TSH/2321/1432
