Pakistan rules out impact of missile test on dialogue with India

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad, Dec 9, IRNA -- Pakistan has said that the Wednesday`s
test-fire of its nuclear capable missile will not affect the on-going
dialogue process with neighboring India.
"The test will not cast any negative impact on the on-going peace
process between Pakistan and India," Foreign Office spokesman Masood
Khan told a private local television.
Pakistan test-fired a medium-range Hatf-IV Shaheen-I missile,
which has a range of 700km (435 miles), and was launched from an
undisclosed location, a military statement said.
The latest test came nine days after Pakistan test fired a
medium-range missile, and said it would carry out more tests in the
coming days.
"Pakistan believes that the test will not create tense atmosphere
between Pakistan and India," Khan added.
He said the test was not aimed sending a message to any one but
the objective was to boost capability in missile technology.
Khan said that Pakistan is not in favor of arms race in South Asia
but wants to correct the conventional imbalance in the region.
"Concrete steps are underway for the restoration of Confidence
Building Measures on nuclear and expressed the hope that the missile
test will not affect the forthcoming foreign secretary level talks
between Pakistan and India," the spokesman added.
