Pakistan rules out impact of missile test on dialogue with India

Islamabad, Dec 9, IRNA -- Pakistan has said that the Wednesday`s test-fire of its nuclear capable missile will not affect the on-going dialogue process with neighboring India. "The test will not cast any negative impact on the on-going peace process between Pakistan and India," Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan told a private local television. Pakistan test-fired a medium-range Hatf-IV Shaheen-I missile, which has a range of 700km (435 miles), and was launched from an undisclosed location, a military statement said. The latest test came nine days after Pakistan test fired a medium-range missile, and said it would carry out more tests in the coming days. "Pakistan believes that the test will not create tense atmosphere between Pakistan and India," Khan added. He said the test was not aimed sending a message to any one but the objective was to boost capability in missile technology. Khan said that Pakistan is not in favor of arms race in South Asia but wants to correct the conventional imbalance in the region. "Concrete steps are underway for the restoration of Confidence Building Measures on nuclear and expressed the hope that the missile test will not affect the forthcoming foreign secretary level talks between Pakistan and India," the spokesman added.
