Pakistan to acquire P-30 aircraft, spares from US: Naval chief

Islamabad, Aug 6, IRNA - Pakistan hopes that the United States will provide P-30 aircraft and its spare parts, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Shahid Karimullah said here on return from his official visit to US on Thursday. "The visit had cemented the already existing relations between the two navies," the naval chief said at the airport. On the issue of receiving military equipment, Admiral Shahid Karimullah said that he was very hopeful on the acquisition of P-30 aircraft and spares of units, held in the Pakistan Navy`s Inventory. "Such things are in the pipeline and should soon be approved by the US Senate, but we have to be patient as there are procedures." "We don`t want to take hasty decisions, Pakistan Navy would like to acquire the military hardware after through examination of the offer so that what we get is in accordance with the service requirement and in best interest of the nation," he added. Admiral Shahid Karimullah during his stay in US met US Under Secretary of States Christina Rocca, Admiral Vern Clark, Chief of Naval Operations US Navy besides calling on the US Fleet Commanders of the Pacific and Atlantic Fleets. The admiral also called on chief of Central Command. Admiral Shahid Karimullah said that the official circles of US were appreciative of the principles stand of Pakistan on war against terrorism and they also understand the constraints of Pakistan in this regard. "Pakistan Navy`s participation in the Maritime Coalition Campaign was lauded by the military and civil functionaries of the United States," he said. TK/TSH/1423
