Two militants, one soldier killed in Pak tribal clash

Islamabad, June 16, IRNA - At least two militants and one soldier died in a clash between Pakistani paramilitary forces and armed suspects early Wednesday in the country`s tribal region, close to the Afghan border. According to local reporters, a group of militants attacked a government building with rockets early Wednesday at Ladha, about 30 kilometers north of Wana, the main town in South Waziristan. The attack sparked a gun battle. The shooting continued for three hours after the overnight attack by some 25 militants. They fled after the shooting. Reports said the militants attacked the post and occupied it and the authorities sent paramilitary force to take the post back. A major army operation against al-Qaeda suspects in the region last week killed at least 72 people, including 55 militants. AHM/TSH/1423
