Japan criticizes Pakistan`s ballistic missile test

Islamabad, June 4, IRNA -- Japan has expressed its "deep regret" over Pakistan`s testing of a ballistic missile. Pakistan successfully test-fired on Friday a medium-range ballistic missile, capable of carrying nuclear warheads for the second time in less than a week. "The government of Japan reiterates its deep regret that Pakistan further conducted a ballistic missile test on June 4, following that of May 29, despite the continued efforts by the international community to promote non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles," a statement issued by Japanese embassy, quoted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying. The Hatf V missile can hit targets at 1500 km, a military statement said. "The government of Japan further calls on Pakistan to respond sincerely to the efforts by the international community to promote the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles," the Japanese statement said. It also said that government of Japan hopes that these tests will not affect peace and stability in the South Asia region. TSH/2329/1432
