Pak Navy to join US-led coalition plan
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, April 17, IRNA -- The Pakistan Navy will join the US-led Coalition Maritime Campaign Plan (CMCP) next week in line with the country`s general policy of participation in international peacekeeping/peace enforcing efforts. Dawn newspaper reported on Saturday that the Pakistan Navy would not participate in any blockade by the coalition against any country in the region. Quoting the chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Shahid Karimullah, the daily said that "the interdiction operations within the country`s territorial waters shall be conducted only by the Pakistan Navy." The naval chief further said that Pakistan had contributed forces in Somalia, Sierra Leone, East Timor, etc., and by joining the coalition maritime plan would augment the Pakistan Navy`s surveillance of its area of interdiction against threats to its maritime security.
