Pakistan rules out compromise on N-program
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, March 16, IRNA - Pakistan on Tuesday categorically ruled out any compromise on the national nuclear program. "There is no foreign pressure either to rollback nuclear program or share its control," declared Minister for Information Shiekh Rashid Ahmed while responding to a notice during the National Assembly session. He made it clear that the nuclear program was a key to security and defence guarantee on which there would be no question of any compromise. The mover and co-movers of the notice charged that by `mishandling` the issue of nuclear proliferation, the statesmen had endangered the nuclear program. They apprehended that Islamabad could rollback the program on foreign pressure or share its command and control with others. The lawmakers also slammed the arrest of some noted nuclear scientists, which they said had caused grave concern among the people of Pakistan. However, the minister, who is also the government spokesman, added that the nuclear-assets were under a tight command and control system. Brushing aside allegations that the program had been endangered, the minister said with wise handling of the issue of nuclear proliferation, the government had successfully defended the nuclear assets. "There is no question of handling over the control of nuclear program to another country," he said. The minister said that the nuclear scientists were hero and would remain national hero, adding no government but a few individuals were involved in transfer of nuclear technology to some foreign countries.
