Pakistan testfires N-capable Shahin-II missile
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, March 9, IRNA -- Pakistan said Tuesday it "successfully" testfired a nuclear-capable ballistic missile. State-owned PTV announced that the surface-to-surface projectile could travel 2,500 km (1,250 miles) and carry all kinds of warheads with a payload of 1,000 kg. Military experts said the missile could reach all across rival neighboring India. Pakistan says its weapons program is a response to that of nuclear-armed India, with which it has fought three wars since independence in 1947. The test comes less than a week after Israel concluded a deal to sell India a strategic airborne radar system despite warming ties between Islamabad and New Delhi. Reports said that the supersonic missile is solid-fueled and there would be no need to change it for three years. TSH/LS/210 End
