IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, Feb 17, IRNA - The relatives of detained nuclear scientist have announced to launch countrywide mass mobilization campaign to save Pakistan`s national strategic assets and its national heros. "We urge the people of Pakistan to support us in saving our national strategic assets and national heroes who served for impregnable defense of the country," the relatives told a news conference. Those who addressed the news conference included Assamul Haq (brother of Major Islamul Haq - personal staff officer of Dr. A.Q. Khan), Shafique (son of Brig Sajawal - security chief of KRL), Usman Nazir (son of Dr. Nazeer - nuke scientist of KRL), relatives of Dr. Muhammad Farooq (head of foreign procurement department of KRL) and many men and women related to other detained officials of KRL. "We heard a rumor that Dr. Khan received a heart attack but I would like to tell you all that he is okay. He however needs a regular medical treatment," Assamul Haq said. He added, "We fear that Dr A.Q. Khan might be eliminated as the US President Bush had already declared him as his enemy." He referred to the execution of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and said "he was murdered on initiating nuclear program". "We have adopted a rational way to get our dear ones released and want to mobilize our Pakistani brothers and sisters for this noble cause," Haq said. They urged the parliamentarians for requisition of joint sitting of the parliament for in-camera session on proliferation issue and for questioning these detained scientists and officials of KRL. Dr. Shafiqur Rehman, medical doctor of Dr. Khan, said, "We met Ch. Shujaat - president of the Pakistan Muslim League - and despite his assurance, there is no news where our dear ones are being kept. He said that Dr. Khan has been suffering from hypertension, depression and loneliness "and needs continuous medical treatment". Only one nurse has been taking care of his health, Dr. Shafiq said while referring to the information he had received. They said that all who have been detained for the last weeks belong to an age group of 55 to 67-years. They told the news conference that Dr. Zubair was sacked from KRL by Dr. Khan on the charges of corruption. Zubair was also detained on November 27 with other scientists of KRL but was released after a few days. They argued and produced material while saying that every information of making nuclear bomb has been mentioned in the journals and books related to physics and other natural sciences. Usman Nazeer said, "Strangely Israel refused IAEA for any sort of inspection of its nuclear assets, "but strangely the government of Pakistan who is not member of NPT not only opened its nuclear facilities on foreigners but defamed its own scientists."
