Senior Pak N-scientist in good health: Foreign Office

Islamabad, Feb 16, IRNA - Pakistan`s top nuclear scientist, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan is in good health and suffering no cardiac disease, Foreign Office Spokesman Masood Khan said here Monday. According to a leading Pakistani newspaper, Dr. Khan has been suffering from a cardiac disease and was treated at his residence last week. The medical team of KRL Hospital has been appointed to treat Dr. A.Q. Khan at his house where father of Pakistan`s nuclear program has been detained in the name of "protective custody", the reports suggested. "The report suggesting that Dr. Khan suffering from cardiac disease is wrong and baseless," said the Spokesman of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan Masood Khan. Dr. Khan is in "very good" health condition, he added. A cardiac machine and a team of cardiologists have been treating Dr. Khan at his residence in Islamabad for many days, a report suggested here Monday. Dr. Khan who had no cardiac related disease history in the past, was suffering a pain in his left arm since he was questioned by Pakistani intelligence authorities on the proliferation issue, the report suggested. Khan, who served for years as an autonomous administrator of Kahuta Research Laboratories - named after him - was removed from the laboratories by President General Pervez Musharraf in 2002 and was appointed adviser to the prime minister of pakistan on science and technology. When Khan was questioned on proliferation, the government issued a notification while sacking him from his position as the adviser. TSH/MM/213 End
