Pakistan denies US team paid secret visit

Islamabad, Feb 13, IRNA - Pakistan has denied that a 24-member delegation, led by a top United States official visited Islamabad on Wednesday. The newspaper Dawn reported on Friday that Foreign Office Spokesman Masood Khan denied presence or a short visit by a US delegation to Islamabad. Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major- General Shaukat Sultan, the daily added, said he was not aware if any senior US official had visited the Federal Capital. However, section of the local press claimed that the US delegation arrived at the Chaklala airbase in the evening and left the country the day after. The press said that there was a movement of the US VVIP on Thursday morning because of which traffic remained jam for quite some time in all directions on the VVIP route between Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Something important was likely to happen shortly because the international media teams had started converging in the capital. After top Pakistani nuclear scientist Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan made a televised confession of his involvement in nuclear proliferation last week, there were reports that the US Secretary of State Colin Powell would pay a visit to Pakistan shortly.
