Pak N-scientist Qadeer Khan says he is fine - daily
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, Feb 1, IRNA -- Founder of Pakistan nuclear program Dr. Abdu Qadeer Khan was quoted in comments published on Sunday as saying that he has left his case to Allah Almighty. Urdu daily Nawa-i-Waqt quoted Mr Khan as saying that he is fine and at home. Qadeer was removed yesterday from his post as adviser to the prime minister on strategic program. He was sacked after the Nuclear Command Council reviewed a probe into the alleged illegal sale of nuclear technology outside Pakistan. Pakistan Military Spokesman Shaukat Sultan has said that security for Qadeer Khan has been tightened following his dismissal. Khan had held the post of scientific adviser since retiring as head of the country`s top nuclear institution in 2001. More than 15 people from the country`s premier nuclear enrichment facility, Khan Research Laboratories (KRL), have been questioned so far and five scientists and officials are still in the custody of the authorities, reports said. The family of Dr Khan, a man who has always enjoyed financial and bureaucratic support from the establishment, says the scientist - now in effect `under house arrest` in the capital - is being made a "scapegoat". The man who until recently was regarded as the father of Pakistan`s nuclear bomb was dismissed from his post by a simple notification. He was appointed to the largely ceremonial post after he retired as the head of KRL. An official statement said Khan had been relieved of his responsibilities to allow a fair investigation into the nuclear proliferation allegations. TK/TSH/212 End
